Placement Testing for Degree and College Credit Programs

Testing is by appointment only. Students should call the Testing Center at 850-973-9451 to schedule an appointment and pay testing fees by phone at 850-973-1610. Students who wish to test at the Live Oak Location should call 386-364-5093.

Students entering degree programs, taking degree-credit courses, or any level of English, math, or reading courses may be required to take a placement test before registering. ACT, SAT, ACCUPLACER, and PERT are accepted. Exemptions to the placement test requirement can be found in Florida Statute 1008.30.

1008.30 Common placement testing for public postsecondary education(4)(a) A student who entered 9th grade in a Florida public school in the 2003-2004 school year, or any year thereafter, and earned a Florida standard high school diploma or a student who is serving as an active duty member of any branch of the United States Armed Services shall not be required to take the common placement test and shall not be required to enroll in developmental education instruction in a Florida College System institution. However, a student who is not required to take the common placement test and is not required to enroll in developmental education under this paragraph may opt to be assessed and to enroll in developmental education instruction, and the college shall provide such assessment and instruction upon the student’s request.

Testing for Career & Workforce Certificate Programs

  • Career Certificates. Students seeking a Career Certificate program of 450 hours or more (Practical Nursing, Advanced Manufacturing and Production Technology, Early Childhood Professional Certificate) complete an entry-level basic skills examination. Assessments used:
    • Form A Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE)
    • Common placement tests PERT, ACT, SAT, ACCUPLACER with minimum scores that place the student into college level courses for English and math
    • Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System (CASAS), GOALS 900 Series, 2019
    • 2014 GED Tests with minimum scores of 145 on Reasoning through Language Arts and 145 on Mathematical Reasoning.
    • Exemptions from basic skills exit requirement based on possessing of a college degree at associate in applied science level or higher, successful completion of college coursework, or demonstrated readiness for public postsecondary education will be evaluated by the program advisor or the Office of Enrollment Services.
    • Note: Students applying to limited access programs may be required to take skills assessments as part of program admission criteria.

  • Pubic Safety Academy Programs.
    • Students seeking admissions to Public Safety programs (Corrections and Law Enforcement) take the CJBAT (Florida Criminal Justice Basic Abilities Test).
    • Exemptions to the Law Enforcement Basic Abilities Test (not applicable to Corrections Basic Abilities Test):
      • U.S. Veterans who served in the active military, naval, or air service and who were discharged or released under honorable conditions. Required documentation: DD214 or other military documentation indicating an honorable discharge.
      • Persons who hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university. Required: official transcript indicated the degree was conferred.
